Branch Rickey Correspondence 1952-1955.

Correspondence between 1952 and 1955 primarily between Branch Rickey and Branch Rickey Jr. Most of this collection relates to player negotiations and drafting of Cuban players. There is a scouting report by Rickey Jr. on players from the Charleston Club, a dinner invitation from Frick to Rickey and a letter to Mrs. Rosey Rowswell from Rickey aftter Rosey's death. There is a 1952 contract between the Pittsburgh Club and the Republic of Cuba for training in 1953 to 1955.

The City of Pttsburgh's first nationally recognized professional baseball club was the Pittsburgh Alleghenies which joined the National League in 1887. The Alleghenies became the Pirates in 1891 when they were accused of "pirating" players from the rival American Association (later the American League). The name stuck.
